The Memorial Service

Remembering, Celebrating, and Giving Thanks for a Life

At Hawker Church, a memorial service is a celebration of the Resurrection. The liturgy, therefore, is characterized by joy, in the certainty that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:39)

This joy, however, does not diminish the very real grief that we feel. The same love we have for each other in Christ brings deep sorrow when we are parted by death.

When a loved one dies, the faith of the Christian community can help the family to grieve, to begin healing from the loss, and to honor their loved one. A service of Christian burial and remembrance highlights the Christian promise of resurrection and eternal life. Those wishing to hold a funeral service or memorial commemorating the life of a loved one are encouraged to contact the Pastor directly to make their arrangements.  In general, funerals and memorials are held at the church for current church members and are held at a time mutually convenient for both the church and the bereaved family.
